We asked Trend Nation LLC to share a few programs they feel really capture what’s unique about their workplace. Here is what they had to say.
Trending Above: Trend Nation gives staff the opportunity to nominate peers for going above and beyond their normal scope of work. They fill out a form that says the employee’s name, what they did and what core value the action exemplifies. All nominations are read every Friday and a winner is picked at random. The winner holds the Trend Nation Champion Belt for the week and also received $50 in Howie bucks to be used in the company’s stores.
Educational Reimbursement: Trend Nation values education and higher learning which is why a $500 education reimbursement is offered to every employee each year.
Core Values Learning Program: This 7 week program gives staff members an opportunity to explore the core value in a variety of ways. A 15 minute session for each value encompasses visual, auditory and tactile learning methods to demonstrate how the value plays into a day at Trend Nation and also everyday life. After 6 weeks of learning sessions, each staff member participates in the Core Values Challenge, a questionaire to determine how much they have learned. If 10 out of 12 questions are answered correctly then they receive a dog tag with the company logo on one side and the values listed on the other.

What key characteristics tell you a prospective employee will be a great fit for your company?
Our hiring decisions are based on a set of core values questions that help to determine whether or not the candidate is a good fit. While skills based questions and testing are important, if a candidate is not a good culture fit for the company they cannot be successful at Trend Nation. We look at the following values through our series of questions: dependability, creativity, community, initiative, positivity and integrity. The answers to the core vlaues questions truly deterine how a candidate will fit into Trend Nation.
What can prospective employees do to get your attention?
To be knowledgeable about Trend Nation and what we do will surely attract attention. It is easy to walk into an interview and answer questions that are asked of you but to do your own reasearch about the company and be prepared with good questions about the formulation of the company and the reasons we do what we do will certainly make the candidate stand out.
Are there any unusual or especially rigorous steps of your hiring process that candidates should be aware of?
Every candidate will meet at least two staff members, one of whom will be an executive. They will be asked a series of questions to determine their skill set but also their fit into the culture. A skills test is always done in some capacity to ensure the candidates abilities meets the requirements.
Are there any positions or types of candidates you are particularly focused on hiring in this coming year?
Trend Nation is focused on technology development therefore we are in search of software engineers. We are also looking for a Merchanise Planning Manager and Assistant Category Managers.
